I mean some people have there own opinion it's just that you can still love horses and want to race them and you can. It's just that sometimes you can not race them and they still can get exercised.

They could get hurt anywhere but at horse racing they would get put down, not just because they get hurt but because they didn't win. I voted no.

Also, people that think its dangerous to race...its just as dangerous as you galloping your horse. Horses can get hurt ANYWHERE. not just on a racetrack.
And finally, if you think every horse that doesnt win is put down, slaughtered, your wrong. Many horses enjoy a good life without winning. By falling for these stories your just helping feed the fire. Horse Racing is a beautiful thing that shouldnt be shut down because there are idiots kill their horses for losing, while many farms are doing great things. Why should they get hurt for others horrible actions?

Woah! i love horse racing. Horses love running, so in turn they love to race.
Cross roads i agree mostly but you cant say only the US mistreats horses. In many countries its much much worse. we also have Animal cops and such that go and stop that. in many countries they dont have enough money to fund that. I have also been to many big racing farms, and theyre loved and cherished. When Barbaro went down, everyone was upset. The owners tried and tried to help him, put money into him even if they knew they might be doing it with a slim chance of recovery. why? because they LOVED that horse.
But once again, you cant say its just the US that treats horses, and all animals cruelly. ive seen worse in other countries.

ok crossroads, u r mostly right. BUT, it's not JUST the US mistreating horses. We're not the enemies here, people all over the world mistreat their horses. Just cuz there is a surplus population of poorly bred, unwanted horses in the US, and the slaughterhouses were not properly inspected, doesn't mean it's all OUR fault.

Okay, a couple things...and these are my opinions. I don't exactly appreciate people sending rude and threataning messages how my opinion is wrong. The truth is, look, seriously, are you really that insecure to be messaging people dumb things like that?
Okay, my opinions....
Who put the "horse" in "horsepower"? You guessed it. Horses. Horses gave the name horse power to cars and what not due to their speed and endurance. If a car has extreme speed and endurance, they have extreme horse power. This name was given becuase of horse racing. As some of you might know, the horse population in the world is over populated, and I understand, why shouldn't they be treated differently? Horses should be treated with care and responsibility, treat it as if it were a child. Give it tender love and care as he/she grows. But it must learn with disiplince and must know the do's and don't s of life. Unfortunately, horses do not have a choice when going into horse racing, the owner picks the fate for the horse. Now I know, some of you are a bit....tender.....when it comes to horse racing and slaughtering of the horse. Slaughtering is completely humane and is not against the law in most areas around the world. The only reason why it is not allowed in the US is because most people here find it quite to their disgust to slaughtering a horse. Now, I don't exactly want to go into that kind of topic, but it seems as if it needs a bit more explaining.
In Dutchland, their horses are treated with love and compassion as they are kept. The horse lives a good life, so atleast you know that it was happy while it lived. I mean, come on! In Norway, they give the horses and cows beds to sleep on. Now that's kinda over the top. Same goes for Canada as for what I said about Dutchland. They get pampered in their duration of staying.
It is the US that treats the horses with disrespect and hate. The people here in the US seemingly cannot treat their animals with care, hence the law of not being able to own a slaughterhouse in the US. Not everybody treats their horses horribly.
Now, the horse races. Yes, I do belive there are alternative ways to racing the horse itself. Whipping should not be nessicary. However, a differing breed of horse would be pleasureable to race than a TB.
FYI, once more, NOT ALL HORSES ARE TREATED CRUELY. Nor is racing a cruelty against animals. It's what gave the Americans pride during rough times, how Seabiscuit get so famous?
It isn't everybody that does this, but I do belive the horses should be treated properly. I vote NO. But there should be a middle button, a yes, but no.
Is my point clear to you PBers?

racing is like galloping across the field with our own horses, but chances are that the ground WE gallop on is worse than a poly track (special material on the race track that absorbs shock going into the horse's legs). i know i love taking my TB on a trail and racing across the country side. the only difference is the lack of a starting gate, and no other horses to race. horse racing is not cruel, read about!
